Mossman State School was established in 1898 and has a rich educational history. This is evident in the fact that we have fourth generational families attending our school and some of our teachers attended our school as primary school students.

Our students come from a variety of areas including Julatten, Mossman Gorge, Mossman township, Cooya Beach, Newell Beach, Wonga Beach and Port Douglas.  Our motto 'Forever onwards' refers to our commitment to ensure that every child is a lifelong learner, that they develop an environmentally aware social conscious and are positive, productive members of society. We value the importance of extra-curricular activities and include these as part of our weekly timetable. These include a before school reading club, instrumental music, Gifted and talented programs, health and physical education, sporting activities, music and Foundational learning programs.

Throughout the year we participate in the Port Douglas Carnivale street parade, Reef guardian projects, cultural programs (including NAIDOC week and march),  ANZAC Day march, superhero days and various other student council initiatives. Our school prides itself on our inclusivity practices which cater for children within our Special education program.

Embracing leadership is an integral part of our core business at Mossman State School. We do this in a number of ways, including the selection of school captains and house captains (Jardine, Leichhardt and Kennedy) and the nomination and selection of student leaders as part of the student council program. Our school captains attend a cluster leadership camp at Tinaroo Dam as part of the leadership development program. We use system leadership theory as our template for shared leadership roles across our staff. These specific roles include Head of curriculum, Literacy lead coach, Guidance officer, Social worker, senior teachers and advanced senior teachers.
